What's inside

The Parent 3upport program aims to improve children's mental health by supporting parents in strengthening their parenting skills and the parent-child relationship. It offers online modules and optional group sessions, combining psychoeducation, practical exercises, and peer support. Parents can use the program independently, with or without professional guidance, depending on their needs.

Online Group Sessions

Structured online and face to face group sessions offer parents a space to connect, reflect, and learn from each other. Sessions are optional and partly self-guided, following a simple format: a welcome, a short introduction to the topic, supporting materials, and space to share and connect. Parents can join at their own pace and use the platform for extra support between sessions.

Facilitated & Peer-Led Models

Different implementation formats of the program will be tested: one featuring intensive professional guidance, and the other a blended or fully self-guided version. The feasibility of encouraging participants to adopt rotating volunteer roles within the group will also be explored, supported by clear protocols and structured reading guides. This gradual, step-by-step approach allows groups to grow organically and become self-sustaining. Our long-term aim is for sessions to be run independently, making the program scalable, low-cost, and community-driven, without reliance on external funding.

Agile development

In future versions of the program, we may add interactive features, such as anonymous advice, peer-to-peer chat, or forums for sharing experiences. These “nice-to-haves” will be guided by parent feedback and ongoing needs assessments. The goal is to further increase accessibility, connection, and support in a way that feels safe and useful to parents and professionals.

E-learning modules

The online modules form the backbone of the program. Each module focuses on a central theme - such as self-care, setting boundaries, or responding to challenging behavior - and includes short texts, audio, or video content. Modules offer psychoeducation, concrete strategies, exercises, and reflection prompts that parents can work through at their own pace.

The content is concise and designed for low-threshold use: 5-10 minutes of material per theme, plus optional practice tasks.

Flexible & Practical by Design

The program is built to fit easily into the daily lives of parents. It uses simple B1-level language, focuses on practical strategies before theory, and offers short, accessible content that can be used anytime - with or without group participation. Group sessions take place in the evening, online or in the neighbourhood. No referral is required to participate and the entire program is offered free of charge. This flexible, barrier-free approach helps ensure that support reaches those who need it most, in a way that feels relevant and doable.

Evidence-Based

The outline of the program is grounded in research, drawing on evidence from meta-analyses and best practices according to the NJI database. At the same time, we’re developing the program in a co-iterative way, together with parents and professionals. This means that no element is set in stone. We remain flexible and open to adapting the content based on feedback and what actually works in an online, real-world setting.
